Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Shanghai July 1 temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature forecast in Shanghai on that date. The interface displays current market prices, 24-hour volume of $219,005, and historical price movements as traders adjust their positions. This market aggregates collective predictions from participants betting on whether peak temperatures will fall within specific ranges, offering a live snapshot of crowd sentiment on Shanghai's weather conditions for the target date.

Prediction market odds reflect real-money incentives for accuracy, often diverging from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market prices in trader conviction and incorporates late-breaking information continuously. Comparing the implied probability from market odds to official forecasts from China's meteorological authority can reveal where the crowd expects conditions to differ from baseline models. Markets tend to react faster to emerging weather patterns, though both sources remain valuable for understanding temperature expectations.

This market resolves around Jul 1, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Shanghai for July 1 becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual weather data against the specified temperature thresholds embedded in the market's contract. Resolution occurs after the trading window closes and official meteorological records confirm the day's peak temperature, at which point payouts are distributed to holders of the winning outcome.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, or tropical storm activity could significantly alter market prices. Real-time atmospheric data releases, changes in ocean temperatures, or unexpected pressure system developments may prompt traders to reassess temperature probabilities. Additionally, historical weather anomalies or climate pattern updates from meteorological agencies could trigger repricing. As July 1 approaches, each new forecast update or observable weather trend typically generates trading activity, making this market responsive to both predictive models and emerging atmospheric conditions.
