Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader conviction and incentivize accuracy through financial stakes. While meteorologists publish deterministic point forecasts or confidence intervals, this market aggregates dispersed information from thousands of participants with direct financial exposure to the outcome. Comparing the implied probability from market prices to published forecasts from Seoul's meteorological authority or international weather services can reveal where traders expect official models to miss or where consensus has shifted. These differences highlight how markets and traditional forecasting complement each other in capturing uncertainty.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature bracket has its own contract, and the price of a share reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. As more capital flows into a particular temperature range, its price rises and others adjust downward. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures the market stays responsive to new information, weather model updates, and changing trader expectations throughout the lead-up to June 27.
This market resolves around Jun 27, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Seoul on June 27 is confirmed and verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the official temperature reading for that date, typically reported by South Korea's meteorological authority or equivalent trusted weather data provider. Resolution occurs after the trading window closes and the final temperature is locked in, at which point winning shares are paid out according to which bracket the actual high temperature fell into.
Major weather model updates, seasonal pattern shifts, and atmospheric pressure systems approaching the Korean peninsula can all trigger significant price movements. Release of extended forecasts from meteorological agencies, tropical storm activity, or unexpected heat waves in East Asia may shift trader expectations upward or downward. Real-time temperature readings in the days leading up to June 27 will narrow uncertainty and concentrate odds around the most likely range. Breaking news about climate anomalies or sudden weather pattern reversals could also prompt rapid repricing as traders adjust their positions based on new information.
