Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trading activity and diverse participant perspectives. While meteorologists rely on physics-based models and historical data, this market reflects what traders are willing to stake on specific temperature outcomes. Analyst forecasts tend to be point estimates or narrow ranges, whereas prediction markets express uncertainty as a probability distribution across all possible temperatures. Both sources can be valuable: analysts provide technical depth, while market odds reveal where informed traders see the most likely scenarios.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on buy and sell pressure. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature outcome is represented as a separate contract, and the price of each reflects the implied probability that outcome will occur. As traders accumulate positions, the market price shifts to balance supply and demand. This continuous pricing mechanism means the odds you see represent the most recent consensus among active participants.
This market resolves around Jun 16, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Seoul on June 16 becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing all recorded temperatures for that date and confirming the peak value. Resolution typically occurs within hours or days after the event concludes, once official data is published and confirmed. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome receive their payout once the result is finalized.
Weather forecasts updated by meteorological agencies can shift odds significantly as new model runs become available. Seasonal patterns, atmospheric pressure systems, and tropical weather developments all influence trader expectations. Major weather events or anomalies reported in the media may trigger rapid repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for Seoul in mid-June provide a baseline that traders reference when adjusting positions. As June 16 approaches, real-time weather alerts and short-term forecasts typically drive the most volatile price movements in this market.
