Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorologist forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader positioning, risk appetite, and broader information flows beyond raw weather models. While meteorological agencies publish deterministic temperature ranges based on atmospheric data, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants with financial stakes in the outcome. Comparing the implied probabilities here to published forecasts from Seoul's national weather service can reveal where traders are pricing in tail risks or consensus shifts that official models may lag in reflecting.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares tied to each temperature outcome bracket. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the collective probability that outcome will occur, with the sum of all outcome prices equaling one dollar. As traders update their positions based on new weather data, model runs, or seasonal patterns, share prices adjust in real time, creating a continuous price discovery mechanism that rewards accurate forecasting and penalizes poor predictions.
This market resolves around Jun 15, 2026, once June 15 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Seoul that day is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the single highest temperature reading reported by official meteorological stations or widely recognized weather data providers for that calendar date. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature bracket receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and atmospheric anomalies—such as unexpected heat waves or cold fronts—can significantly move odds in this market. Real-time model updates from meteorological agencies, changes in solar activity, or unusual jet stream behavior may trigger rapid repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for Seoul on June 15 and broader climate trends in East Asia can influence trader positioning as the date approaches, with each new data point potentially shifting the implied probability distribution across temperature brackets.
