Prediction market odds reflect real-money trader conviction and aggregate dispersed information, often diverging from traditional weather forecasts or analyst models. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric data and historical patterns, this market prices the outcome based on collective market belief. Comparing the current odds to official weather agency predictions for Seoul on July 9 can reveal whether traders expect conditions warmer or cooler than consensus forecasts. Such gaps often highlight uncertainty or new information not yet reflected in traditional models.
On Polymarket, traders buy and sell shares representing "Yes" (30°C or higher) and "No" (below 30°C) outcomes, with the price of each share reflecting the implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price adjusts in real time as traders enter and exit positions, creating a continuous auction mechanism. Higher trading volume typically narrows bid-ask spreads and increases price stability, while lower liquidity can widen spreads and create larger price swings between trades.
This market resolves around Jul 9, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Seoul for July 9 becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by whether the peak temperature reaches or exceeds 30°C. Weather model updates and seasonal forecasts released in the weeks leading up to July 9 can shift market odds significantly. Major atmospheric patterns, monsoon activity, or heat wave warnings specific to East Asia may trigger sharp price movements. Real-time weather data closer to the event date—such as upper-air patterns or tropical system developments—often causes rapid repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for Seoul in early July and any unusual climate anomalies can influence trader positioning and market direction.
