Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorologist forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, uncertainty premiums, and market-wide information flow. While weather analysts rely on numerical models and historical patterns, this market aggregates the views of many participants with financial incentives to forecast accurately. Comparing the implied probabilities here to published forecasts from meteorological agencies can reveal where traders expect surprises or where consensus is strongest, though both approaches have distinct strengths in capturing temperature uncertainty.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range is represented as a separate contract, and the price of each reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. As new information arrives—weather alerts, model updates, or seasonal patterns—traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The spread between bid and ask prices tightens as the event date nears and uncertainty resolves.
This market resolves around Jul 8, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Seoul on July 8 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by official meteorological data, typically from South Korea's national weather service or internationally recognized weather stations in the Seoul area. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature range receive their payout once the final reading is confirmed and the market settles automatically.
Major weather pattern shifts, seasonal monsoon activity, and updated climate forecasts can significantly move this market. Real-time alerts from meteorological agencies, unexpected heat waves, or cold fronts approaching the Korean peninsula will trigger rapid repricing. Historical temperature records for early July in Seoul also serve as anchors for trader expectations. As July 8 approaches, actual daily temperatures in the days before will narrow uncertainty and drive final price adjustments, with the market becoming increasingly sensitive to short-term weather updates.
