Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorologist forecasts because they incorporate real-time trading by participants with diverse information and incentives. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market aggregates the beliefs of traders who profit or lose based on accuracy. Comparing the implied probability here to official forecasts from Korea Meteorological Administration or major weather services can reveal where market participants are more or less confident. Such gaps sometimes signal overlooked risks or overconfidence in consensus views, making side-by-side comparison a useful due-diligence step before trading.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker or order-book system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature bracket has its own contract, and the price of each reflects the probability traders assign to that range occurring. Higher prices mean higher implied likelihood; lower prices indicate lower perceived probability. As new weather data, forecasts, or seasonal patterns emerge, traders adjust their positions, moving prices dynamically. The spread between bid and ask prices reflects liquidity and uncertainty around that particular outcome.
This market resolves around Jul 6, 2026, once July 6 has passed and the highest temperature in Seoul for that day is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual recorded temperatures against the predefined brackets offered in the market. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome bracket receive their payout; all other positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event, once official meteorological data is published and confirmed.
Major weather pattern shifts, seasonal anomalies, or updated climate forecasts from meteorological agencies can significantly move prices in this market. Tropical cyclones, heat waves, or unusual atmospheric blocking patterns affecting East Asia may trigger sharp repricing. Real-time satellite imagery, model consensus changes, and historical temperature comparisons for early July in Seoul all influence trader behavior. Media coverage of extreme weather elsewhere in the region can also shift sentiment. As the event date draws closer, intraday weather updates and final model runs typically drive the most volatile trading, especially in the final 48 hours before July 6.
