Prediction market odds reflect real-money bets from traders worldwide, often incorporating meteorological forecasts, historical climate data, and seasonal patterns. Analyst forecasts—published by weather services and climate researchers—typically rely on numerical weather models and expert interpretation. This market aggregates dispersed trader knowledge into a single probability, which can diverge from any single analyst's point estimate. Comparing the two reveals where the crowd sees risk differently from official forecasts, though both sources draw from similar underlying climate science and observational data for Seoul's July conditions.
This market resolves around Jul 2, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Seoul on July 2 is verified and finalized. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature against the specified thresholds embedded in each contract. Resolution relies on credible public reporting of Seoul's official weather data, ensuring all traders reference the same authoritative source. Once the event passes and data is confirmed, payouts are distributed according to which temperature bracket occurred.
Major weather pattern shifts—such as monsoon onset timing, tropical cyclone activity, or heat dome formation over East Asia—could significantly alter temperature expectations for Seoul in early July. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies and real-time atmospheric data releases often trigger repricing. Historical anomalies, El Niño or La Niña conditions, and urban heat island effects specific to Seoul also influence trader positioning. As the date approaches, short-range weather models become more reliable, typically narrowing the range of plausible outcomes and sharpening market odds.
