Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate real-money incentives and continuous price discovery. While meteorologists publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on atmospheric models, this market reflects what traders are willing to stake on specific temperature outcomes. Analyst forecasts tend to be more conservative and updated on fixed schedules, whereas market prices adjust instantly to new information. Both approaches have merit: analysts bring domain expertise and model rigor, while markets reward accurate bets with profit. Comparing the two can reveal where consensus is strong or where uncertainty remains highest.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker that balances supply and demand for each temperature outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Shares representing different temperature ranges trade continuously, with the price of each outcome reflecting its implied probability. When you buy a share, you're betting that outcome will occur; if correct at resolution, your share pays one dollar. The spread between bid and ask prices tightens as more traders participate, making the market more efficient. Higher trading volume typically narrows spreads and improves price accuracy.
This market resolves around Jul 7, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Seattle on July 7 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by official weather station data, typically reported by the National Weather Service or equivalent meteorological authority. Resolution occurs shortly after the close of the trading day on July 7, allowing time for final readings to be confirmed. Once the temperature is locked in, the winning outcome pays out and all other outcomes expire worthless. Traders should monitor official weather reporting channels in the days leading up to resolution.
Major weather pattern shifts, seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric updates will drive price movement in this market. If meteorologists issue heat advisories or revise their outlooks significantly, traders will adjust positions accordingly. Historical temperature records for July 7 in Seattle also serve as anchors; traders compare current forecasts to past extremes to calibrate their bets. Short-term catalysts include updated computer models from the National Weather Service, unexpected heat domes, or cooler-than-expected systems moving into the Pacific Northwest. As July 7 approaches, intraday temperature trends and overnight lows will become increasingly important signals for final positioning.
