Frequently asked questions

The São Paulo temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature forecast in São Paulo on June 15. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the dashboard displays current odds for each outcome, 24-hour trading volume, and cumulative liquidity across all temperature brackets. This live data reflects how the prediction market community is pricing the likelihood of specific temperature thresholds being exceeded on that date.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and incentivize accuracy through financial stakes. While meteorologists publish deterministic forecasts based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates the collective judgment of participants who profit only if their temperature predictions prove correct. Comparing the two reveals whether professional forecasters and market participants align on the likelihood of specific temperature outcomes, or whether traders are pricing in tail risks or model uncertainty that analysts downplay.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares in competing temperature outcomes through an automated market maker. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on a specific temperature range, and the price of each outcome reflects the probability traders assign to it occurring. As new information arrives—updated weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time atmospheric data—traders adjust their positions, moving prices dynamically until the market closes on Jun 15, 2026.

This market resolves around Jun 15, 2026, after the highest temperature in São Paulo on June 15 has been recorded and verified. The outcome is confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting, typically from Brazil's national meteorological institute or other authoritative weather data sources. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature bracket receive their payout once the resolution is finalized and the platform settles all positions.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric data releases can significantly move odds in this market. El Niño or La Niña conditions, tropical system activity, and anomalies in sea-surface temperatures all influence June weather in São Paulo. Additionally, revisions to long-range climate models, historical temperature records for that date, and trader positioning ahead of resolution can trigger sharp repricing. As June 15 approaches, intraday weather updates and final model consensus will likely drive the most volatile price swings.
