Prediction market odds reflect the collective judgment of traders betting real money, whereas traditional analyst forecasts rely on meteorological models and expert opinion. This market aggregates dispersed information from many participants, often capturing nuances that single-source forecasts may miss. Comparing the odds here to published weather forecasts from meteorological agencies can reveal where the market is pricing in higher or lower confidence around specific temperature bands. Traders often incorporate the latest model runs and local conditions, making these odds a useful cross-check against conventional predictions for July 5 in São Paulo.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares of competing outcomes—for example, "Will the highest temperature be 15°C or below?" versus warmer alternatives. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each contract trades independently, and the price of a share reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome. As new information emerges or sentiment shifts, prices adjust in real time. The spread between bid and ask prices tightens or widens based on trading volume and conviction, so more actively traded temperature ranges typically show tighter spreads and deeper liquidity.
This market resolves around Jul 5, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in São Paulo on July 5 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature against the contract thresholds—for instance, whether it stayed at or below 15°C or exceeded that level. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event, once official meteorological data is published and confirmed. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome receive their payout automatically once the market settles.
Weather model updates and seasonal forecasts are primary drivers—shifts in atmospheric patterns, El Niño conditions, or unexpected cold fronts can reshape trader expectations. Real-time meteorological alerts, changes in long-range forecasts, and historical temperature comparisons for early July in São Paulo all influence trading. Social media discussion or news coverage of unusual weather patterns may also sway sentiment. As July 5 approaches, short-range forecasts become more reliable and precise, typically causing prices to converge toward the actual outcome. Any major climate anomaly or forecast revision in the days leading up to the event could trigger sharp repricing.
