Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, uncertainty premiums, and broader information flows beyond historical weather models. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric data and physics-based simulations, this market aggregates the beliefs of participants who have financial incentive to forecast accurately. Comparing the implied probabilities here to published forecasts from Brazil's national weather service or international models can reveal where the crowd expects surprises or where consensus is strongest. Such comparisons help identify whether the market is pricing in tail risks that analysts may underweight.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares corresponding to each temperature outcome, with the share price reflecting the market's implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares predicting higher temperatures, those prices rise and competing outcomes fall, creating a dynamic equilibrium. The order book depth and recent trade volume determine how easily you can enter or exit a position. Prices update continuously throughout the market's life, allowing you to trade based on new weather data, model updates, or shifting consensus about São Paulo's climate on that specific day.
This market resolves around Jul 2, 2026, once July 2 has passed and the actual high temperature in São Paulo is verifiable from credible public reporting. The outcome is determined by comparing the recorded temperature to the predefined ranges offered in the market, with the winning outcome paying out based on which band the official reading falls into. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event, once meteorological data is confirmed and published by reliable weather authorities. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout automatically.
Updated weather forecasts from Brazil's national meteorological institute or international models like ECMWF and GFS can shift odds significantly as new atmospheric data becomes available. Seasonal climate patterns, El Niño or La Niña conditions, and historical temperature anomalies for early July in São Paulo all influence trader positioning. Breaking news about unusual weather systems, heat waves, or cold fronts approaching the region will trigger repricing. Additionally, as July 2 approaches, real-time observations of actual conditions in the days leading up to the event—humidity, cloud cover, wind patterns—allow traders to refine their bets and adjust the market's probability distribution.
