Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Qingdao temperature market dashboard displays real-time odds and historical price movements for predictions on the highest temperature recorded in Qingdao on June 14. Traders use this interface to monitor how market sentiment shifts as new weather forecasts emerge and the event date approaches. The dashboard also shows trading volume and liquidity metrics, helping participants gauge market depth and the confidence level reflected in current odds. This live data enables informed decision-making for those tracking the Qingdao temperature market.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and broader information flows beyond official weather models. While meteorologists publish deterministic temperature ranges based on atmospheric data, this market aggregates the collective judgment of traders who may weigh additional factors—seasonal patterns, historical anomalies, or recent climate trends. The odds here reflect a probabilistic view shaped by market dynamics, whereas analyst forecasts typically present point estimates or confidence intervals. Both sources offer value: markets capture distributed intelligence, while expert forecasts provide rigorous scientific grounding.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that allows traders to buy and sell shares representing different temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome has a price between 0 and 1 (or 0–100 cents), reflecting the implied probability that the highest temperature will fall within that range. As traders buy shares in outcomes they believe are underpriced, the mechanism adjusts prices upward; selling pressure moves them down. This continuous repricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information and trader conviction.

This market resolves around Jun 14, 2026, once June 14 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Qingdao can be verified. The outcome is confirmed against credible public sources that document the day's peak temperature. Traders holding shares in the outcome bracket that contains the verified temperature receive their payout, while other positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours or days of the event, depending on data availability and platform processing.

Major weather pattern shifts—such as unexpected high-pressure systems, tropical cyclones, or sudden seasonal transitions—could significantly alter odds in this market. Updated meteorological forecasts from official agencies often trigger repricing as traders adjust their positions based on refined models. Seasonal climate reports and historical temperature comparisons for mid-June in Qingdao also influence trader expectations. Real-time atmospheric data released in the days leading up to June 14 will likely drive the most volatile price movements, as the event becomes increasingly certain and forecasts narrow.
