Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Qingdao temperature market dashboard displays real-time odds and historical price movements for predictions about the highest temperature in Qingdao on July 6. Traders on the platform continuously update their positions based on weather forecasts and incoming data, creating a dynamic price that reflects the collective expectation of market participants. The dashboard lets you monitor how sentiment shifts as the event date approaches, offering transparency into what the prediction market community believes will occur.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, risk appetite, and information that may not yet be reflected in official weather models. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric data and historical patterns, this market aggregates the views of many participants with financial incentives to be accurate. Comparing the odds here to published forecasts from weather services can reveal where traders see opportunity or disagreement, though both sources aim to predict the same underlying temperature outcome.

On Polymarket, traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature outcomes, with the price of each share reflecting its implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market uses an automated market maker model where prices adjust continuously based on trading volume and order flow. As traders place bets on whether the highest temperature will reach specific thresholds, the collective price discovery process generates odds that represent the market's best estimate of what will actually occur on July 6.

This market resolves around Jul 6, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Qingdao for that day becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual temperature readings against the prediction thresholds embedded in the market's contract. Once the event has occurred and data is confirmed, the market settles automatically, paying out traders who correctly predicted the temperature range.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric conditions will all influence trader positioning in this market. Tropical storms, heat waves, or unexpected cold fronts affecting East Asia could trigger significant price swings as participants reassess their bets. Additionally, any revisions to long-range weather models or anomalous climate data in the days leading up to July 6 may prompt traders to adjust their positions, creating volatility in the odds as new information becomes available.
