Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Paris temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature expected in Paris on June 16. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the dashboard displays the current probability assigned to each outcome. You can monitor 24-hour volume and order-book depth to gauge market activity and liquidity. This live data reflects how the crowd is pricing the likelihood of various temperature scenarios as new weather forecasts and seasonal data emerge.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and risk appetite alongside expert models. While meteorologists publish deterministic temperature ranges based on atmospheric data, this market aggregates the collective judgment of participants who have financial incentive to be accurate. Comparing the implied probability from current odds to the confidence intervals published by weather services can reveal whether traders are pricing in more or less uncertainty than official forecasts suggest. Over time, markets tend to converge toward observed outcomes, making them a useful benchmark for gauging crowd conviction.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) pool. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature bracket has its own contract, and the price of a share reflects the probability the crowd assigns to that outcome occurring. As traders deposit capital and place orders, the pool rebalances and prices adjust. The sum of all outcome probabilities equals 100 percent, so if one outcome becomes more likely, others must decline proportionally. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures the market remains efficient and responsive to new information.

This market resolves around Jun 16, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Paris on June 16 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the official meteorological data for that date, confirmed through established weather reporting channels. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome bracket receive their payout, while other positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of market close, pending final data confirmation.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and atmospheric anomalies can significantly move prices in this market. Tropical systems, heat waves, or unusual pressure systems affecting Western Europe will trigger trader repositioning. Real-time updates from meteorological agencies and visible changes in long-range models often spark sharp repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for June 16 and broader climate trends may influence how traders assess tail-risk outcomes. As the event date approaches, intraday weather updates and final model consensus typically drive the most volatile trading.
