Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Paris July 9 temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for contracts tied to the highest temperature forecast in Paris on that date. The dashboard displays the current price of the leading outcome—whether the high will reach 31°C or stay below that threshold—along with historical price movements and liquidity depth. Traders use this data to monitor how market sentiment shifts as the event date approaches, with volume and price history helping participants assess conviction levels among the broader prediction community.

Prediction market odds reflect aggregated trader expectations and often diverge from traditional weather forecasts issued by meteorological agencies. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market prices in real-time information and trader conviction, sometimes leading to different probability assessments. Comparing the implied odds here to published forecasts from Météo-France or similar sources can reveal where the crowd sees upside or downside risk relative to expert models. Both approaches offer value: markets capture collective intelligence, while institutional forecasts provide rigorous scientific methodology.

On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker (AMM) mechanism, where buying or selling contracts shifts the odds in real time. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The contract representing "31°C or below" trades at an implied probability that reflects current market consensus. As traders buy or sell, the price adjusts automatically, creating a continuous price discovery process. This mechanism ensures liquidity and allows participants to enter or exit positions throughout the trading window leading up to resolution.

This market resolves around Jul 9, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Paris on July 9 becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the official high temperature for that day against the 31°C threshold embedded in the contract. Traders holding the winning side receive their payout, while the losing side receives nothing. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market close, pending confirmation of the final temperature reading.

Weather model updates and seasonal forecasts are primary drivers of price movement in this market. Major atmospheric patterns—such as heat waves, cold fronts, or shifts in the jet stream—can significantly alter expectations for July temperatures in Paris. Real-time meteorological alerts and official forecast revisions from weather agencies often trigger trading surges as participants reassess probabilities. Additionally, historical temperature anomalies and long-range climate indices may influence trader positioning as the event date draws closer, with increased volatility typical in the final days before resolution.
