Frequently asked questions

The dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature prediction in Panama City on June 5 on Polymarket. It displays the current probability of the top outcome, historical price movements, and 24-hour trading volume in USD. Users can monitor how market participants are pricing the likelihood of specific temperature thresholds being reached, providing a live snapshot of crowd expectations for that day's peak heat in Panama City.

Prediction market odds reflect real-time consensus from traders betting on Panama City's June 5 temperature, while meteorological forecasts from weather agencies and climate analysts rely on atmospheric models and historical data. Market prices often incorporate broader information—including long-range climate patterns, seasonal trends, and recent weather anomalies—that may differ from traditional forecasts. Comparing the two reveals whether traders expect conditions warmer or cooler than official predictions, highlighting areas of agreement or divergence in temperature expectations.

On Polymarket, the temperature outcome is priced as a binary contract: Will the highest temperature in Panama City be 31°C or higher on June 5? On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market uses an automated market maker model where prices reflect the probability traders assign to that threshold being met. As traders buy or sell shares, the price adjusts continuously. Current market activity and the volume of trades directly influence how the contract is valued, with higher trading activity typically indicating stronger conviction among participants about the likely outcome.

The market resolves on Jun 5, 2026, after June 5 concludes in Panama City. Resolution is determined by the actual highest temperature recorded in Panama City on that date. Official meteorological data sources are used to confirm the final temperature reading, which is then compared against the contract threshold to determine whether the outcome occurred. Once the data is verified and the outcome is confirmed, the market settles and traders receive payouts based on their positions.

Several factors could shift market odds before June 5. Changes in long-range weather forecasts—particularly shifts in atmospheric pressure systems, tropical activity, or seasonal patterns—often trigger repricing. Real-time weather model updates closer to the date carry significant weight. Historical climate data releases and anomalies in regional temperatures may also influence trader sentiment. Additionally, broader climate events, ocean temperature trends, and any unusual weather patterns in Central America could prompt traders to adjust their positions, causing the market price to move up or down.
