Frequently asked questions

The Panama City temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature forecast in Panama City on June 28. Traders buy and sell shares corresponding to different temperature ranges, and the dashboard displays current market prices, cumulative trading volume of $27,013, and 24-hour activity at $18,674. This live data reflects collective trader expectations about the day's peak temperature, updated continuously as new information and forecasts emerge.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because traders incorporate real-time data, historical patterns, and risk sentiment into their pricing. While weather analysts publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates dispersed trader knowledge into a single probability. Comparing the two reveals whether the crowd is more bullish or bearish on extreme heat than official forecasts suggest, offering a complementary lens on outcome likelihood.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range has its own contract, and the price of each reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. As traders adjust positions based on new weather data or model updates, the market price shifts in real time, creating a continuous signal of expected conditions for the specified date.

This market resolves around Jun 28, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Panama City on June 28 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual observed temperatures against the predefined ranges offered in the market. Traders holding shares in the correct range receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close of the trading day.

Major weather model updates, tropical storm or hurricane forecasts, and seasonal climate anomalies can significantly shift trader positioning. Real-time atmospheric data, upper-level wind patterns, and sea surface temperatures in the Caribbean region are closely watched catalysts. Additionally, historical precedent—such as unusually hot or cool June days in Panama City—influences expectations. As the event date approaches, intraday weather alerts and final model consensus tend to drive the most volatile price swings in this market.
