Frequently asked questions

The Panama City temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature forecast in Panama City on June 27. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the dashboard displays current odds for each outcome, 24-hour trading volume of $20,046, and cumulative activity. This market lets participants express their confidence in specific temperature thresholds through live market prices, which update continuously as new trades occur and as the event date approaches.

Prediction market odds reflect the collective judgment of traders betting real money, whereas analyst forecasts typically come from meteorological models and expert opinion. This market aggregates dispersed information from many participants, often capturing nuances that single-source forecasts may miss. Comparing the leading outcome odds to published weather forecasts can reveal where the crowd expects conditions to diverge from baseline models. Both sources have value: markets excel at pricing uncertainty and tail risks, while meteorologists provide detailed physical reasoning behind their projections.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares of competing temperature outcomes through an automated market maker. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on a specific temperature range, and the price reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. As traders adjust their positions based on new information—weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time atmospheric data—prices shift to equilibrate supply and demand. The most heavily traded outcomes typically command the highest prices, signaling where market conviction is strongest.

This market resolves around Jun 27, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Panama City on June 27 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the official temperature reading against the predefined thresholds embedded in each share. Traders holding shares corresponding to the actual temperature range will receive their payout, while other positions expire worthless. Resolution timing depends on when the data becomes publicly available and confirmed through standard meteorological reporting channels.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and tropical system activity could significantly move odds in this market. Real-time atmospheric data, including sea-surface temperatures and pressure systems affecting Central America, often triggers repricing as traders incorporate new information. Historical climate anomalies or unexpected warming trends in the region may also influence expectations. As June 27 approaches, intraday weather updates and short-range model consensus typically drive final price adjustments, with the most volatile moves often occurring in the final 48 hours before the event.
