Frequently asked questions

The Munich temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature forecast in Munich on June 15. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the dashboard displays current bid-ask spreads, cumulative volume, and 24-hour trading activity. This market aggregates collective trader sentiment into a live probability distribution, allowing participants to monitor how confidence in each outcome shifts as new weather data and forecasts emerge leading up to the event date.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader positioning, risk appetite, and information flow beyond official weather models. While meteorologists publish deterministic or probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric data, this market reflects what traders are willing to stake on each temperature outcome. Comparing the two reveals whether the crowd is pricing in tail risks, model uncertainty, or recent data that analysts may not yet have fully weighted. Both sources offer value: analysts provide scientific rigor, while markets reveal where informed traders see asymmetric opportunities.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker (AMM) mechanism where share prices reflect the ratio of liquidity allocated to each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As traders buy shares representing higher or lower temperature ranges, the price of those shares adjusts automatically to maintain the pool's balance. This continuous pricing model means the market is always live and tradeable, with spreads tightening as volume increases and consensus strengthens around particular outcomes.

This market resolves around Jun 15, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Munich on June 15 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing final temperature data against the predefined outcome brackets offered in the market. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome bracket receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market end date once official meteorological data is published and confirmed.

Major weather model updates, seasonal climate patterns, and atmospheric pressure systems can significantly shift odds in this market. Publication of extended forecasts from European meteorological agencies, unexpected heat waves or cold snaps affecting the region, and real-time temperature readings as June 15 approaches will all influence trader positioning. Additionally, historical temperature records for that date and broader European weather trends may prompt traders to reassess their probability estimates. Late-breaking weather alerts or anomalies in the days immediately before the event often trigger sharp repricing.
