Prediction market odds reflect aggregated trader sentiment and often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market prices in real-time information and trader conviction. Comparing the current odds to published forecasts from national weather services can reveal where the prediction community sees higher or lower confidence in a particular temperature range. Both sources offer value: analysts provide scientific rigor, while markets capture dynamic, crowd-sourced probability estimates updated continuously as new data emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader buy and sell orders into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—such as whether the high will be 23°C or below—has its own contract, and the price of that contract reflects the probability traders assign to it. As traders deposit capital and place bets, the price adjusts to balance supply and demand. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures the market stays responsive to new weather data and shifting trader expectations.
This market resolves around Jul 12, 2026, once July 12 has passed and the day's highest temperature in Munich can be verified. The outcome is confirmed against credible public sources reporting the actual peak temperature recorded on that date. Once the verified temperature is published, the market automatically settles: contracts on the correct outcome pay out in full, while incorrect predictions expire worthless. Resolution is typically completed within hours of the official temperature data becoming available.
Weather forecasts updated by meteorological agencies are the primary driver of price movement in this market. Major atmospheric patterns—such as heat waves, cold fronts, or unexpected cloud cover—can shift trader expectations significantly. Real-time weather alerts, seasonal anomalies, and even global climate events can influence how traders reassess the probability of specific temperature ranges. As July 12 approaches, intraday forecasts become increasingly precise, often triggering sharp repricing. Traders also monitor historical temperature records for Munich to calibrate their bets against long-term seasonal norms.
