Frequently asked questions

The Moscow temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature forecast in Moscow on June 27. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, with prices reflecting the collective prediction of market participants. The dashboard displays current odds for each outcome, 24-hour trading volume of $23,122, and cumulative volume of $40,419 across all positions. This live pricing mechanism allows you to monitor how sentiment shifts as new weather data and forecasts emerge leading up to the event date.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader conviction and risk appetite alongside expert models. While weather agencies publish deterministic temperature ranges based on atmospheric data, this market aggregates the distributed knowledge of traders who profit or lose based on accuracy. Comparing the implied probability from market prices to official forecasts can reveal where traders expect greater or lower temperatures than consensus models suggest. This divergence frequently highlights uncertainty or disagreement in the underlying data that traditional forecasts may not fully capture.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range outcome has a price between 0 and 1 (or 0–100 cents), representing the implied probability that outcome will occur. As traders place orders, the price adjusts automatically based on supply and demand. Higher prices reflect stronger market belief in that outcome; lower prices suggest traders view it as less likely. Your position's value fluctuates with these price movements until the market resolves.

This market resolves around Jun 27, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Moscow on June 27 is verified and confirmed. The outcome is determined by comparing actual recorded temperatures against the predefined outcome brackets available for trading. Resolution occurs after the event date when credible public reporting and official meteorological data confirm the final temperature. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome bracket receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. The exact timing of payout depends on data verification and platform processing.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric data releases will significantly influence trading activity. Tropical systems, heat waves, or cold fronts affecting Eastern Europe can trigger sharp repricing as traders adjust their expectations. Official meteorological agency updates and long-range models published closer to June 27 often spark volatility. Historical temperature anomalies for that date and time of year also serve as reference points. Media coverage of extreme weather events or climate patterns in the region may prompt traders to reassess probabilities, causing price swings in either direction.
