Frequently asked questions

The Milan temperature forecast market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature expected in Milan on June 29. Traders buy and sell shares based on their predictions of whether the day's peak will reach specific thresholds. The interface displays current market prices, historical price movements, and liquidity data, allowing participants to monitor how sentiment shifts as new weather data and forecasts emerge. This transparent price discovery mechanism reflects the collective expectation of the trading community.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate trader sentiment, historical volatility, and real-time information flow. While weather agencies publish deterministic temperature ranges based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates the financial incentives of participants who profit from accuracy. Comparing the implied probability here to official forecasts from Italy's national weather service or international models can reveal where the crowd expects surprises—such as unexpected heat waves or cooler-than-modeled conditions. Both sources offer value: models provide physics-based reasoning, while markets reflect distributed knowledge and risk appetite.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader orders into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Shares representing each outcome—such as whether the high will be 41°C—trade continuously, and the current price of a yes-share reflects the market's implied probability. As new weather data, seasonal patterns, or climate anomalies emerge, traders adjust their positions, moving the price up or down. The spread between bid and ask prices indicates liquidity and conviction among participants.

This market resolves around Jun 29, 2026, once June 29 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Milan is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature on that day against the threshold specified in the market. Traders who correctly predicted the outcome receive their winnings, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution is typically confirmed within hours of the close of the trading day.

Several factors can shift odds in this market: updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies, anomalous atmospheric patterns or heat waves developing across southern Europe, changes in solar activity or ocean temperatures affecting regional climate, and real-time weather model updates as June 29 approaches. Major climate events—such as a sudden cold front or persistent high-pressure system—can trigger rapid repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for Milan on that date and long-range climate indices may influence trader positioning. As the event date nears, intraday forecasts become increasingly precise, often causing sharp price movements.
