Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior and financial incentives alongside meteorological models. While professional meteorologists rely on physics-based simulations and historical data, this market aggregates the collective judgment of participants who have money at stake. Analysts may issue point forecasts or confidence intervals, whereas traders here express their views through binary or range-based contracts. Comparing the two can reveal whether the market is pricing in tail risks or consensus expectations that formal forecasts may underweight or overlook.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker that adjusts odds based on order flow and liquidity. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each contract represents a specific outcome—for example, whether the highest temperature will reach 35°C—and its price reflects the probability implied by recent trades. As more capital flows into a particular outcome, its price rises and the opposing side falls. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures the market stays responsive to new information and trader conviction, with spreads tightening as liquidity deepens.
This market resolves around Jun 28, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Milan for that day becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the final temperature reading against the contract thresholds traders have wagered on. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event, once official meteorological data is published and confirmed. Traders who correctly predicted the temperature range receive their payout, while those on the losing side forfeit their stake.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, or significant atmospheric events—such as heat waves or cold fronts—can trigger sharp repricing in this market. Real-time weather model updates and alerts from meteorological agencies often prompt traders to adjust positions. Unusual climate anomalies or unexpected pressure system developments may also shift expectations. Additionally, as the event date draws closer, intraday weather reports and live temperature readings will increasingly influence trader sentiment, potentially causing volatility as the actual conditions become clearer and uncertainty narrows.
