Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Milan temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature forecast in Milan on June 14. Traders buy and sell shares based on their predictions of whether the day's peak will reach specific thresholds. The dashboard displays current market prices, historical price movements, and 24-hour trading volume, giving you a live snapshot of how the crowd is pricing this weather outcome. This transparent price discovery mechanism reflects the collective conviction of all participants trading on the platform.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and broader uncertainty. While weather analysts rely on numerical models and historical data to estimate temperature ranges, this market aggregates the beliefs of many independent traders making financial commitments. Comparing the implied probability from current odds to published forecasts from national weather services can reveal where the crowd sees risk differently. Both sources are valuable: analysts provide technical depth, while prediction markets capture dynamic, incentivized expectations as new information emerges.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—such as whether the high will be 30°C—has a price between 0 and 100 cents, reflecting the probability the crowd assigns to it. When you buy shares, you're betting that outcome will occur; when you sell, you're betting against it. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher its price climbs. This continuous price mechanism ensures the market stays liquid and responsive to new weather data or model updates.

This market resolves around Jun 14, 2026, once June 14 has passed and the day's highest temperature in Milan can be verified. The outcome is confirmed against credible public reporting from established meteorological sources. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their winnings, while incorrect positions expire worthless. The resolution process is automated once the temperature data is finalized, ensuring all participants see the same definitive result at the same time.

Several factors can shift odds in this market before Jun 14, 2026. Updated weather models or seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies often trigger repricing as traders adjust their expectations. Major weather systems—heat waves, cold fronts, or unusual atmospheric patterns—can cause sharp moves. Real-time temperature readings in the days leading up to June 14 will narrow uncertainty and tighten the range. Breaking news about climate anomalies or local Milan conditions may also influence trader positioning. Each new data point gives the market a chance to recalibrate its probability estimate.
