Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because traders incorporate real-time data, historical patterns, and risk premiums into their pricing. While meteorologists issue point estimates or confidence intervals based on atmospheric models, this market aggregates the financial commitments of many participants betting on actual outcomes. Comparing the implied probability here to official forecasts from weather services can reveal where traders expect conditions to differ from baseline predictions, offering a distinct lens on temperature expectations.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature bracket has its own contract, and the current price of a share reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. As new information emerges—updated forecasts, seasonal patterns, or recent weather trends—traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down to reflect shifting expectations about the high temperature on that specific date.

This market resolves around Jul 8, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Milan on July 8 becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual daily high against the predefined temperature brackets offered in the market. Traders holding shares in the bracket matching the verified result receive their payout, while other positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close of the trading day.

Major weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, or unexpected atmospheric systems could significantly move prices in this market. Heat waves, cold fronts, or unusual pressure systems developing weeks or days before July 8 would prompt traders to reassess probabilities. Real-time forecast updates from meteorological agencies often serve as catalysts for rapid repricing as the event date approaches.
