Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Milan temperature record market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for predictions on the highest temperature in Milan on July 2. The interface displays current market pricing, 24-hour trading volume, and outcome probabilities as traders buy and sell shares reflecting their forecasts. This dashboard lets you monitor how market sentiment shifts as new weather data emerges and the event date approaches, giving you a live snapshot of collective trader expectations for that specific day's peak temperature in the city.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they aggregate real-time trader behavior and financial incentives rather than relying on a single model. While meteorologists publish deterministic or probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric data, this market reflects what thousands of traders believe will occur, incorporating their own research, local knowledge, and risk appetite. Comparing the two can reveal where consensus breaks down—for instance, if traders assign higher odds to extreme heat than meteorologists predict, it may signal either market overconfidence or factors analysts underweighted. Both sources offer value; markets excel at synthesizing dispersed information, while analysts provide rigorous physical reasoning.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) pool. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—such as temperature ranges or specific thresholds—has a share price between 0 and 1 (or 0% to 100%), and the pool adjusts prices based on order flow to maintain liquidity. Your cost to buy shares reflects the current implied probability; as more traders bet on a particular temperature range, its price rises. This continuous pricing mechanism ensures this market remains liquid and responsive to new information right up until resolution.

This market resolves around Jul 2, 2026, once July 2 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Milan that day is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the predefined temperature thresholds or ranges offered in the market. Traders who correctly predicted the outcome receive their winnings based on the final share price, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event, once official temperature readings are confirmed and published.

Major weather pattern shifts—such as unexpected heat waves, cold fronts, or changes in atmospheric pressure systems—can significantly move this market. Updated seasonal forecasts, anomalies in sea-surface temperatures, or shifts in jet stream behavior often trigger trader repositioning. Real-time weather alerts and model consensus updates from meteorological agencies also influence odds as traders reassess probabilities. Additionally, historical temperature records for Milan on or near July 2 may be referenced by traders calibrating their bets. As the event date approaches, intraday forecasts become more precise, typically narrowing uncertainty and stabilizing prices closer to resolution.
