Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Mexico City temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for predictions about the highest temperature in Mexico City on June 29. The interface displays the current probability estimate alongside historical price movements, allowing traders to monitor how sentiment shifts as new weather data and forecasts emerge. This dashboard provides a live snapshot of market consensus on whether conditions will reach specific temperature thresholds, helping participants gauge collective expectations for that day's peak heat.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior and information flow. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric models and historical data to project temperatures, this market aggregates the collective judgment of participants betting on the outcome. Traders may weigh recent satellite imagery, atmospheric pressure patterns, or seasonal anomalies differently than official forecasters, sometimes leading to odds that run ahead of or lag behind published predictions. Comparing the two reveals how market participants assess uncertainty relative to expert consensus.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares that represent different temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share's price reflects the probability that the highest temperature will fall within a specified range on June 29. As new information arrives—updated weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time atmospheric conditions—traders adjust their positions, causing prices to move. The market price at any moment represents the collective valuation of all active participants, with liquidity and trading volume influencing how quickly prices respond to new signals.

This market resolves around Jun 29, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Mexico City for that day becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual weather observations to the temperature thresholds embedded in the market's prediction options. Traders' positions settle based on which outcome occurred, with payouts distributed to those who correctly predicted the day's peak temperature. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market close, pending confirmation of official meteorological data.

Several factors could shift odds in this market before June 29. Updated seasonal forecasts or long-range weather models showing stronger or weaker heat patterns may trigger repricing. Real-time atmospheric developments—such as high-pressure systems intensifying or moisture patterns changing—often prompt rapid trader response. Historical anomalies, El Niño or La Niña conditions, and urban heat island effects specific to Mexico City can also influence expectations. As the event date approaches, short-range forecasts become more reliable, typically narrowing the range of plausible outcomes and stabilizing prices.
