Prediction market odds reflect real-money bets from traders worldwide, often incorporating meteorological expertise and historical weather patterns. Professional weather analysts typically publish forecasts based on atmospheric models and satellite data, while this market aggregates dispersed trader knowledge into a single price signal. The two approaches sometimes diverge: markets may price in tail risks or uncertainty that traditional forecasts downplay, or analysts may weight recent model runs differently than traders do. Comparing the implied probability here to published meteorological guidance can reveal where market participants see value or disagreement.
This market resolves around Jun 26, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Mexico City on June 26 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data to the temperature thresholds defined in each outcome. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event, once official readings are published and confirmed. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout proportionally.
Major weather pattern shifts—such as an approaching cold front, heat dome, or tropical system—can significantly reprrice this market. Updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies, historical temperature anomalies for late June, and real-time atmospheric pressure changes all influence trader positioning. Urban heat island effects specific to Mexico City and any unusual air quality events may also factor into expectations. As the date approaches, daily weather model updates become increasingly precise, often triggering sharp repricing. Breaking news about regional climate conditions or atmospheric blocking patterns can accelerate moves in either direction.
