Frequently asked questions

The Mexico City temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature forecast in Mexico City on June 14. Traders buy and sell shares based on their predictions of whether the day's peak will reach 29°C or higher. The dashboard displays current odds, historical price movements, and 24-hour trading volume, giving you a live snapshot of market sentiment around this specific weather outcome. This data reflects collective trader expectations as they continuously update positions based on incoming weather models and forecasts.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader positioning and risk appetite alongside meteorological data. While meteorologists rely on physics-based models and historical patterns, this market aggregates the financial incentives of participants who profit or lose based on accuracy. Comparing the implied probability here to consensus forecasts from Mexico City's national weather service or international models can reveal where traders see underpriced or overpriced risk. Both sources offer value: analysts provide technical depth, while markets reflect dynamic, up-to-the-minute belief updates.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on buy and sell volume. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on the outcome—in this case, whether the high temperature will be 29°C or above. As traders deposit capital and place orders, the price of YES and NO shares moves to reflect the collective assessment of that threshold being met. The current odds reflect the marginal trader's view; larger positions or sudden information can shift prices quickly, making the market responsive to new weather data or model updates.

This market resolves around Jun 14, 2026, once June 14 has passed and the day's weather data is finalized. The outcome is determined by the highest temperature recorded in Mexico City on that date, verified against credible public sources. If the peak reaches 29°C or higher, YES shares pay out; otherwise, NO shares win. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market end time, once official temperature readings are confirmed and available for verification.

Major weather model updates, seasonal climate patterns, and atmospheric pressure systems over Mexico can all shift odds significantly. Release of new forecast data from meteorological agencies, tropical storm activity, or heat wave warnings may trigger sharp price movements as traders reassess the likelihood of reaching 29°C. Real-time temperature readings in the days leading up to June 14 also matter—if Mexico City experiences unusually hot or cool weather beforehand, traders may adjust their expectations. Breaking news about climate anomalies or unexpected weather systems could prompt rapid repricing as participants update their positions.
