Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Mexico City temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for predictions about the highest temperature in Mexico City on June 13. Traders buy and sell shares based on their forecasts, and the platform displays the current implied probability alongside historical price movements and recent volume. This dashboard gives you a live snapshot of how the market is pricing the outcome at any moment, reflecting the collective expectations of all participants trading on the venue.

Prediction market odds represent real money at stake, which often incorporates information faster than traditional analyst forecasts. While meteorologists and climate analysts publish seasonal or daily temperature predictions through official channels, this market aggregates the views of traders who profit or lose based on accuracy. The odds here tend to reflect a broader set of data points and incentivize participants to incorporate the latest weather models and local conditions. Comparing the two can reveal where consensus diverges or where market participants see opportunities analysts may have missed.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on buy and sell pressure. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—such as whether the highest temperature will reach a specific threshold—has its own price, expressed as a probability between 0 and 100. As traders place orders, the price moves to reflect new information and sentiment. The current odds represent the market's best estimate of the likelihood of that outcome occurring by the resolution date.

This market resolves around Jun 13, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Mexico City for that day is verified and confirmed. The outcome is determined by comparing actual temperature readings against the prediction thresholds embedded in the market's contract. Once the event occurs and credible public reporting confirms the final temperature, the market settles and winning positions are paid out automatically. Traders holding the correct outcome receive their winnings based on the odds at which they entered.

Weather forecasts and model updates are the primary drivers of price movement in this market. Major shifts in atmospheric patterns, unexpected weather systems, or revised meteorological predictions can cause significant swings in odds. Real-time data from weather stations, seasonal climate patterns, and even global events affecting regional weather systems may influence trader sentiment. As the resolution date approaches, intraday forecasts become more precise, typically narrowing the range of expected outcomes and sharpening the market's pricing around the most likely temperature range.
