Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Mexico City temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature forecast in Mexico City on July 8. The interface displays current market prices, historical price movements, and trading volume as participants buy and sell shares based on their expectations. This market aggregates the collective predictions of traders who believe the day's peak temperature will or will not reach specific thresholds, offering a dynamic snapshot of crowd sentiment around Mexico City's weather conditions on that date.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and financial incentives alongside historical weather models. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric data and computational models, this market reflects what traders are willing to stake on the outcome. Comparing the implied probability from market prices to published forecasts from Mexico City's national weather service can reveal where consensus differs. Traders may price in uncertainty, recent climate patterns, or local factors that standard forecasts weight differently, making the market a complementary lens on expected conditions.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling binary outcome shares, with prices ranging from 0 to 1 (or 0% to 100%) based on supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on one outcome—for example, whether the high temperature will be 21°C on July 8. The market price reflects the collective belief of all participants; higher prices indicate stronger confidence in that outcome. As new information emerges or traders adjust their views, prices shift continuously until the market closes and resolves against verified data.

This market resolves around Jul 8, 2026, once July 8 has passed and the highest temperature in Mexico City can be verified. The outcome is confirmed against credible public sources that record the day's peak temperature. Traders who correctly predicted the temperature threshold win their shares at full value, while incorrect predictions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a day after the event, allowing the platform to settle all positions and distribute winnings based on the verified result.

Weather forecasts updated by meteorological agencies can shift market prices as new atmospheric data becomes available. Seasonal climate patterns, El Niño conditions, or unusual heat waves in the region may influence trader expectations. Real-time weather alerts or warnings issued closer to July 8 could trigger sharp repricing. Additionally, historical temperature records for that date and recent trends in Mexico City's summer highs may prompt traders to adjust positions. Trading volume and late-arriving participants can also create volatility as the resolution date approaches and uncertainty narrows.
