Prediction market odds represent crowdsourced expectations from thousands of traders with real money at stake, whereas traditional analyst forecasts rely on meteorological models and expert judgment. This market aggregates dispersed information and incentivizes accuracy through financial reward, often capturing shifts in weather patterns faster than static forecasts. Comparing the odds here to published weather predictions from meteorological agencies can reveal where traders see upside or downside risk relative to official guidance. Both approaches have merit; markets excel at pricing uncertainty, while institutional forecasters provide detailed physical reasoning.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader activity into real-time odds. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Shares representing each temperature outcome trade continuously, and the price of each share reflects the probability assigned by the market. When traders believe a particular temperature range is underpriced, they buy shares; when they think it is overpriced, they sell. This dynamic process keeps prices aligned with the latest information and sentiment among participants.
This market resolves around Jul 12, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Mexico City on July 12 becomes verifiable from credible public sources.
