Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Mexico City temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature forecast in Mexico City on July 11. The display shows current market prices, 24-hour volume of $58,473, and historical price movements as traders adjust their positions. This market reflects collective predictions on whether the day's peak temperature will hit specific thresholds, with odds updated continuously as new trades execute. The dashboard provides transparency into how the crowd is pricing this weather outcome relative to meteorological expectations.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and risk appetite alongside meteorological models. While professional meteorologists publish point estimates and confidence intervals, this market aggregates distributed bets from participants who may weight recent data, historical patterns, or local knowledge differently. The odds reflect what traders are willing to stake, not just what models predict. Comparing the current market price to published forecasts from national weather services can reveal where the crowd sees upside or downside risk relative to expert consensus.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader orders into real-time probability quotes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy or sell shares representing different temperature outcomes, and the price of each share reflects the implied likelihood of that outcome occurring. As volume flows into one outcome, its price rises and competing outcomes fall, creating a self-correcting mechanism. The current odds show how the market is weighting the top outcome, with spreads tightening as the event date approaches and new information emerges.

This market resolves around Jul 11, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Mexico City on July 11 is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by official meteorological data, typically from Mexico's national weather service or internationally recognized climate monitoring networks. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout once the final temperature is confirmed and the market settles. Resolution is automatic and final once the event passes and data is published.

Weather pattern shifts, updated seasonal forecasts, and real-time atmospheric data releases can all shift odds in this market. Major weather systems moving toward or away from Mexico City, changes in solar activity, or anomalous jet stream positioning may prompt traders to reassess their positions. News of urban heat events, air quality alerts, or climate anomalies in the region can also trigger repricing. As July 11 approaches, early morning temperature readings and intraday forecasts will likely drive final volatility, with traders locking in positions based on the latest meteorological updates.
