Frequently asked questions

The Manila temperature forecast market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature expected in Manila on June 28. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, with prices reflecting the collective probability assigned to each outcome. The interface displays current odds, historical price movements, and trading volume, allowing participants to monitor how market sentiment evolves as new weather data and forecasts emerge. This dynamic pricing mechanism aggregates trader beliefs into a single probability estimate for each temperature bracket.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate not only expert models but also real-time trader positioning and sentiment. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric data and historical patterns, this market reflects what participants are willing to stake on specific temperature outcomes. Comparing the implied probabilities here to official forecasts from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) can reveal where the crowd sees upside or downside risk. Such divergences sometimes signal overlooked factors or market inefficiencies worth investigating.

On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker (AMM) mechanism, where buying or selling shares shifts the odds in real time. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature outcome is represented as a separate contract, and the price of each reflects its implied probability—higher prices mean higher perceived likelihood. As new weather updates or forecasts circulate, traders adjust their positions, causing prices to move dynamically. This continuous repricing ensures the market remains responsive to fresh information and trader conviction throughout the event window.

This market resolves around Jun 28, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Manila on June 28 is verifiable from credible public reporting. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the temperature brackets defined in the market. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome receive their payout, while losing positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close of the trading day, pending confirmation from official weather records.

Several factors can shift odds in this market before resolution. Updated seasonal forecasts from PAGASA or international weather models may indicate stronger heat patterns or unexpected cooling. Tropical weather systems, monsoon activity, or atmospheric pressure changes could alter temperature expectations significantly. Real-world heat events in nearby regions or unusual urban heat island effects in Manila itself might prompt traders to reassess probabilities. Additionally, as June 28 approaches, actual daily temperatures in the preceding weeks will provide concrete data that either validates or challenges earlier predictions, driving final positioning adjustments.
