Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, risk sentiment, and information beyond official weather models. While meteorologists issue deterministic or probabilistic forecasts based on atmospheric data, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants with financial stakes in the outcome. Analysts may issue a single best estimate, whereas traders here express a full distribution of possibilities through their bids and asks. Comparing the two reveals whether the market is pricing in more or less uncertainty than experts publicly state, and can highlight where consensus breaks down.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares tied to specific temperature ranges for Manila on June 19. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome has a price between 0 and 1 (or 0–100 cents), reflecting the implied probability that the highest temperature will fall within that bracket. Higher prices indicate stronger trader conviction; lower prices suggest skepticism. As new information arrives—updated weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time conditions—traders adjust their positions, moving prices continuously. The spread between bid and ask prices reflects liquidity and uncertainty at any given moment.
This market resolves around Jun 19, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Manila on June 19 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual recorded high temperature against the predefined brackets offered in the market. Traders who correctly predicted the temperature range receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution occurs after the trading window closes and official temperature data is confirmed, ensuring all participants have access to the same authoritative information.
Several factors could shift odds significantly before Jun 19, 2026. Updated weather models and seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies often trigger repricing as traders incorporate new atmospheric data. Unusual climate patterns, El Niño or La Niña effects, and historical temperature anomalies for June in Manila can all influence expectations. Real-time conditions closer to the date—such as unexpected heat waves or cooler-than-normal systems—typically drive sharp moves. Additionally, major geopolitical or environmental events affecting regional weather patterns may prompt traders to reassess their positions, creating trading opportunities and volatility in this market.
