Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time information and the financial incentives of traders who profit from accurate predictions. While meteorologists rely on physics-based models and historical climate data, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants with money at stake. Analysts may issue point forecasts or ranges, whereas prediction markets express probabilities through continuous price discovery. Over time, markets that attract sufficient liquidity tend to outperform single-source forecasts, though both approaches have merit—analysts offer detailed reasoning while markets reflect distributed knowledge and immediate market feedback.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that allows traders to buy and sell shares representing different temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share costs between 0 and 1 dollar, and the price reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. Traders profit by buying low and selling high, or by correctly predicting the outcome before resolution. The platform's pricing mechanism ensures continuous liquidity and transparent price discovery, with all transactions recorded on-chain for full auditability and settlement certainty.
This market resolves around Jun 18, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Manila on June 18 is verified and confirmed. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological data against the temperature thresholds defined in the market's outcome categories. Resolution occurs after the trading window closes and credible public reporting confirms the final temperature reading. Traders' positions settle based on which outcome bracket the verified temperature falls into, with payouts distributed automatically once the result is finalized.
Several factors can shift market prices leading up to June 18. Updated weather forecasts from meteorological agencies, particularly those showing shifts in monsoon patterns or tropical storm activity, typically trigger significant price movements. Real-time atmospheric conditions—including sea surface temperatures, humidity levels, and wind patterns—influence trader expectations. Major weather events in the region or unexpected climate anomalies can also prompt rapid repricing. As the date approaches, intraday weather updates and short-term model consensus changes often drive late trading activity, with prices converging toward the actual outcome as uncertainty decreases.
