Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorologist forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and financial incentives. While weather analysts rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market aggregates the beliefs of participants who have money at stake. Comparing the implied probabilities here to published forecasts from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) can reveal where traders see upside or downside risk relative to official predictions.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range outcome has its own price, denominated in USD, and the sum of all outcome probabilities equals 100 percent. As traders place orders, prices adjust in real time to reflect new information and shifting expectations about Manila's weather on July 9.
This market resolves around Jul 9, 2026, once July 9 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Manila can be verified. The outcome is confirmed against credible public weather data sources to determine which temperature range bracket actually occurred. Once the event is finalized and verifiable, the market settles and winning shares are paid out accordingly.
Weather pattern updates, tropical storm warnings, and revised seasonal forecasts from PAGASA can all shift trader expectations and move prices. Major atmospheric systems or unexpected heat waves in Southeast Asia may trigger volatility. Additionally, as July 9 approaches, real-time weather models become more precise, often causing sharp repricing. Social media discussions, news coverage of extreme heat events, and changes in long-range forecasts can also influence how traders position themselves in this market.
