Frequently asked questions

The Manila temperature forecast market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature expected in Manila on July 5. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, with prices reflecting the collective probability assigned to each outcome. The dashboard displays current odds, historical price movements, and 24-hour trading volume of $35,341, giving participants a live view of how the market is pricing this weather event as new information emerges.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorologist forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and incorporate a broader range of available data. While weather analysts rely on numerical models and historical patterns, this market aggregates the views of many participants with financial incentives to forecast accurately. Comparing the implied probabilities here to official forecasts from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) can reveal where traders see additional risk or confidence beyond conventional models.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range has its own contract, and the price of each reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. As new weather data, forecasts, or seasonal patterns emerge, traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The spread between bid and ask prices indicates market confidence and liquidity around each temperature threshold.

This market resolves around Jul 5, 2026, once July 5 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Manila is confirmed. The outcome is verified against credible public sources documenting the actual weather conditions on that date. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature range receive their payout based on the final verified reading, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the market end time once official data is available.

This market will respond to updated weather forecasts, seasonal climate patterns, and real-time atmospheric data as July 5 approaches. Major signals include tropical storm warnings, monsoon intensity shifts, or unexpected heat waves affecting Southeast Asia. Historical temperature records for Manila in early July, changes in PAGASA forecasts, and global climate indices like the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) can all shift trader expectations. As the event date nears, intraday weather updates and satellite imagery typically drive the most volatile price movements.
