Frequently asked questions

The Manila temperature forecast market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature expected in Manila on July 4. Traders buy and sell shares based on whether they believe the peak temperature will reach specific thresholds. The interface displays current market prices, historical price movements, and trading volume, allowing participants to monitor how sentiment shifts as new weather data and forecasts emerge. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective prediction of the market about what conditions Manila will experience on that date.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior and incentives. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market aggregates the beliefs of participants who have financial stakes in the outcome. Analysts may issue point forecasts or confidence ranges, whereas traders here express conviction through their willingness to buy or sell at specific odds. Over time, prediction markets have proven competitive with or superior to expert consensus on weather outcomes, particularly when the underlying event is measurable and well-defined.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares that represent different temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The top outcome currently reflects whether the highest temperature will be 26°C or below, with pricing determined by supply and demand across the order book. As new information arrives—updated weather models, seasonal patterns, or real-time atmospheric conditions—traders adjust their positions, moving the price up or down. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures the market price reflects the latest collective assessment of the likelihood of each temperature scenario.

This market resolves around Jul 4, 2026, once July 4 has passed and the actual highest temperature recorded in Manila is available. The outcome is confirmed by comparing the observed peak temperature against the threshold specified in the market contract. Verification relies on credible public sources that document Manila's weather on that date. Traders who correctly predicted the temperature range receive their winnings, while those on the losing side forfeit their stakes. Resolution is automatic once the data is finalized and verified.

Several factors could shift odds significantly before resolution. Updated seasonal forecasts or long-range weather models predicting unusual heat or cooler conditions would prompt immediate repricing. Real-time atmospheric patterns, monsoon activity, or tropical systems affecting the region could trigger sharp moves as traders react to new information. Major weather events elsewhere in Southeast Asia might also influence regional climate expectations. Additionally, as July 4 approaches, actual daily temperatures and hourly forecasts will drive late trading activity. Each new data point gives traders fresh signals to reassess their positions and adjust their bets accordingly.
