Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional meteorological forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and broader information flows beyond standard weather models. While meteorologists publish point estimates and confidence intervals based on atmospheric data, this market aggregates the collective judgment of participants who have financial incentive to be accurate. Comparing the two reveals whether traders are pricing in more optimistic or pessimistic temperature scenarios than official forecasts suggest. This gap can signal either market inefficiency or information that analysts have not yet fully incorporated into their models.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader buy and sell orders into real-time probability quotes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—representing a specific temperature range or threshold—has its own price, and the sum of all outcome prices equals one dollar. As traders buy shares in higher or lower temperature outcomes, the prices adjust dynamically to reflect the updated consensus. This mechanism ensures continuous liquidity and transparent price discovery throughout the trading period.
This market resolves around Jul 13, 2026, once the actual highest temperature recorded in Manila on July 13 becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the observed temperature against the predefined thresholds or ranges specified in the market. Traders who correctly predicted the temperature band or threshold receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution is typically confirmed within hours of the close of the trading period, once official meteorological data is published.
Major weather pattern shifts, tropical storm activity, or updated seasonal forecasts from meteorological agencies can trigger significant repricing in this market. Real-time satellite imagery and atmospheric pressure readings often prompt traders to adjust positions ahead of the event date. News of El Niño or La Niña conditions, monsoon intensity changes, or unusual heat waves in the region may also influence odds. Additionally, as July 13 approaches, historical temperature data and intraday weather updates will drive final market adjustments, with the most volatile trading typically occurring in the final hours before resolution.
