Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior and incentives. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants with money at stake, which can surface information or consensus that formal forecasts lag behind. Analyst predictions tend to be published on a fixed schedule, whereas market prices update continuously as new weather data arrives. Neither source is inherently more accurate, but comparing them can reveal where expert opinion and trader sentiment align or diverge, offering a richer picture of temperature expectations for July 12.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader buy and sell orders into real-time odds for each temperature outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome contract trades at a price between 0 and 1, where a price of 0.75 implies a 75% chance of that outcome occurring. As traders place orders, the price adjusts to reflect new information and shifting expectations. The spread between bid and ask prices reflects liquidity and uncertainty; tighter spreads indicate high confidence and active trading, while wider spreads suggest less consensus or lower volume in that particular temperature range.
This market resolves around Jul 12, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Manila on July 12 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing all temperature readings from that day and confirming which bracket or exact value represents the peak. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome receive their payout based on the final verified temperature. Resolution typically occurs within hours or a few days after the event, depending on how quickly official data is published and confirmed by the platform.
Major weather pattern shifts, updated tropical cyclone forecasts, or significant atmospheric anomalies could trigger sharp price movements in this market. Real-time weather alerts, monsoon intensity changes, or unexpected heat waves would likely drive traders to reassess their positions. Published meteorological model updates and official weather bureau statements often spark trading surges as new information becomes available. Additionally, historical temperature records for July in Manila and recent heat trends may influence sentiment. As the event date approaches, intraday weather developments and final 48-hour forecasts typically generate the most volatile trading activity, with prices converging toward the actual outcome as uncertainty narrows.
