Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Madrid temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature forecast in Madrid on June 30. The interface displays current market prices, historical price movements, and trading volume as participants buy and sell shares based on their expectations of the day's peak temperature. This market aggregates the collective predictions of traders and reflects how confidence in specific temperature outcomes shifts as new information emerges. The dashboard provides transparency into how the crowd is pricing different temperature scenarios leading up to the event.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader sentiment and incentivize accuracy through financial stakes. While meteorologists rely on atmospheric models and historical data, this market reflects what informed participants are willing to bet on, sometimes revealing different risk assessments or confidence levels. Comparing the implied probability in this market to published forecasts from national weather services can highlight where traders see upside or downside risk relative to expert consensus. Both approaches offer value: analysts provide detailed reasoning, while markets aggregate dispersed information through price discovery.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares that represent different temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share pays out based on whether the actual highest temperature matches the specified range or threshold. The market price reflects the collective probability assigned by all participants; higher prices indicate stronger belief in that outcome occurring. Liquidity and order flow determine how quickly prices adjust when new information arrives, and traders profit by correctly predicting which temperature scenario will materialize on June 30.

This market resolves around Jun 30, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Madrid for that day is verified and confirmed. The outcome is determined by comparing actual weather observations to the temperature thresholds specified in the market. Resolution occurs after official meteorological data becomes available and can be cross-checked against credible public sources. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout once the event is finalized and the platform settles all positions accordingly.

Several factors could shift odds in this market before Jun 30, 2026. Updated seasonal weather forecasts, atmospheric pressure systems, or heat wave warnings from meteorological agencies may prompt traders to reprice their positions. Major climate or weather news affecting southern Europe could influence expectations. As June 30 approaches, real-time weather models typically become more accurate, often triggering significant repricing. Early-morning temperature readings on the day itself may also drive last-minute trading activity as participants refine their bets based on emerging conditions.
