Frequently asked questions

The Madrid temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movement for the highest temperature expected in Madrid on June 25. Traders here are pricing their collective forecast of that day's peak temperature by buying and selling outcome shares. The interface displays current market odds, 24-hour trading volume of $81,118, and cumulative volume of $126,300 across all outcome brackets. This live data reflects how prediction market participants are positioning themselves ahead of the event, offering a dynamic alternative to traditional weather forecasts.

Prediction market odds and traditional weather forecasts often diverge because they operate on different principles. Meteorologists rely on physics-based models and historical data, while market participants incorporate real-time information, sentiment, and financial incentives. This market aggregates the collective judgment of traders who have skin in the game—they profit only if their temperature prediction is correct. Over time, prediction markets have proven competitive with or superior to expert forecasts on similar events, though both approaches have merit. Comparing this market's odds to official forecasts from Spain's meteorological service can reveal where traders see upside or downside risk.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling shares tied to specific temperature ranges or outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome share represents a claim on the final temperature reading, and its price reflects the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. The market uses an automated market maker (AMM) model, meaning prices adjust continuously based on order flow and liquidity. As traders place bets, the odds shift to reflect new information or changing sentiment about how hot Madrid will be on that date. This mechanism ensures prices remain responsive and discovery-driven throughout the trading period.

This market resolves around Jun 25, 2026, once June 25 has passed and the day's highest temperature in Madrid can be verified. The outcome is determined by comparing the recorded peak temperature against the predefined outcome brackets established at market creation. Verification typically draws from credible public weather data sources to ensure accuracy and fairness. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome bracket receive their payout once the result is confirmed and the market is officially settled. The exact timing of settlement depends on data availability and platform processing.

Several factors could shift odds in this market before Jun 25, 2026. Updated seasonal forecasts or long-range weather models showing warmer or cooler patterns would likely trigger trading activity. Major weather systems—such as heat waves, cold fronts, or unusual atmospheric conditions—announced by meteorological agencies could move prices sharply. News about climate anomalies or historical temperature records for that date might also influence trader positioning. As June 25 approaches, short-term forecasts become more reliable and precise, often causing the market to narrow around a tighter range. Real-time weather developments in the days immediately before the event typically drive the most volatile price movements.
