Frequently asked questions

The Madrid temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature forecast in Madrid on June 18. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the dashboard displays current probabilities for each outcome, 24-hour trading volume, and a price history chart. This lets you monitor how market sentiment shifts as new weather data emerges and the event date approaches.

Prediction market odds reflect the collective judgment of traders betting real money on outcomes, whereas meteorological forecasts from weather agencies rely on numerical models and expert analysis. This market aggregates dispersed information from participants who have financial incentives to be accurate. Over time, prediction markets often converge toward or diverge from official forecasts based on new data, model updates, or trader conviction. Comparing the two can reveal where consensus is strong or where uncertainty remains highest.

On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each temperature range has its own contract, and the price of each share reflects the implied probability that outcome will occur. As traders place orders, the price adjusts in real time. Your potential profit or loss depends on the entry price you pay and the final resolution price, creating direct incentives for accurate forecasting.

This market resolves around Jun 18, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Madrid on June 18 is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the actual meteorological data reported for that day. Traders holding shares in the winning temperature range receive their payout based on the final resolution price, while other positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours or days of the event, once official readings are confirmed.

Weather model updates and forecaster revisions are the primary drivers of price movement in this market. Major atmospheric pattern shifts, seasonal anomalies, or unexpected heat waves can trigger sharp repricing. Media coverage of extreme weather events elsewhere may also influence trader sentiment about European temperatures. As June 18 approaches, real-time weather data and short-term forecasts become more reliable, often causing the market to converge toward narrower outcome ranges and higher confidence in specific temperature bands.
