Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Madrid temperature market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature forecast in Madrid on June 17. The display shows the current probability estimate, historical price movements, and recent trading volume as participants buy and sell shares based on their expectations. This live data reflects the collective prediction of the market's traders and updates continuously as new trades execute. The dashboard provides transparency into how the crowd is pricing this specific weather outcome.

Prediction market odds and traditional weather forecasts often diverge because they reflect different methodologies. Meteorologists use physics-based models and historical data to project conditions, while this market aggregates the beliefs of traders with financial incentives to forecast accurately. Analyst predictions tend to be point estimates or ranges, whereas market odds express a probability distribution across all possible outcomes. Comparing the two can reveal where traders see risk or opportunity that conventional forecasts may underweight or overlook.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares that represent different temperature outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share pays out based on whether the actual highest temperature matches the specified range or threshold. The current market price reflects the equilibrium between buyers and sellers, with higher prices indicating greater confidence in that outcome. As new information emerges or trading interest shifts, prices adjust dynamically to balance supply and demand.

This market resolves around Jun 17, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Madrid for that day becomes verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by comparing the actual peak temperature against the specified thresholds or ranges defined in the market's contract. Resolution occurs after the trading window closes and official data is confirmed, at which point winning shares are paid out according to the market's rules. Traders should monitor weather reporting and official temperature records as the date approaches.

Weather forecasts and seasonal climate patterns are the primary drivers of price movement in this market. Updated meteorological models, atmospheric pressure systems, and heat wave warnings can shift trader expectations significantly. Real-time temperature readings in the days leading up to June 17 will also influence odds as the event draws closer. Major weather events, changes in forecast confidence, or unexpected atmospheric conditions could trigger sharp repricing as traders reassess the probability of different temperature outcomes.
