Frequently asked questions

The Madrid temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movement for predictions on the highest temperature recorded in Madrid on June 16. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, and the dashboard displays current bid-ask spreads, cumulative volume, and how market sentiment has shifted over time. This lets you monitor which temperature outcomes traders favor most and how conviction has evolved as new weather data emerges.

Prediction market odds reflect the collective judgment of traders with real money at stake, often incorporating meteorological forecasts, historical climate patterns, and seasonal trends. Professional weather analysts typically publish point estimates or confidence intervals based on numerical models; this market aggregates those signals plus trader intuition into a probabilistic price. When analyst consensus shifts—say, a heat wave warning or cooler-than-expected model run—market odds often adjust faster than traditional forecasts update, making them a useful real-time barometer of expected conditions.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds through an automated market maker that adjusts prices based on buy and sell pressure across temperature outcome buckets. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on a specific temperature range, and the price of that share reflects the market's implied probability. As traders accumulate positions or new information arrives, the pricing mechanism continuously rebalances, ensuring the market remains liquid and responsive to changing expectations about June 16 conditions in Madrid.

This market resolves around Jun 16, 2026, once June 16 has passed and the highest temperature recorded in Madrid that day is verifiable from credible public reporting. The outcome is determined by comparing actual recorded temperatures against the predefined outcome buckets established at market creation. Traders holding shares in the correct temperature range receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless, incentivizing accurate forecasting throughout the event window.

Major weather pattern shifts—such as an approaching Atlantic high-pressure system, sudden cold fronts, or tropical moisture intrusions—can significantly reprrice this market. Updated seasonal forecasts, anomalous heat waves across southern Europe, or changes to long-range model consensus will likely trigger trader repositioning. Real-time weather alerts, overnight low temperatures, and morning forecasts closer to June 16 typically drive the most volatile moves, as traders refine their bets based on the latest atmospheric data and short-range model guidance.
