Frequently asked questions

The Madrid temperature prediction market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature expected in Madrid on July 8. Traders buy and sell shares representing different temperature ranges, with the current market price reflecting the collective forecast of participants. The interface displays 24-hour volume, order-book depth, and settlement details, allowing you to monitor how sentiment shifts as new weather data emerges. This live pricing mechanism aggregates dispersed forecasts into a single, transparent probability for each outcome.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader positioning and financial incentives alongside meteorological models. While professional meteorologists publish point estimates and confidence intervals, this market reflects what participants are willing to stake on specific temperature thresholds. Both sources draw on similar underlying data—satellite imagery, atmospheric pressure, historical patterns—but markets can react faster to breaking conditions or consensus shifts. Comparing the two reveals whether traders are pricing in more or less uncertainty than official forecasters, offering a complementary lens on July 8's likely conditions.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that adjusts odds based on buy and sell volume. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders purchase shares in outcome bins—for example, "temperature between 35–37°C"—and the price of each share reflects its implied probability. As more capital flows into a particular outcome, its price rises and others fall, ensuring the odds remain internally consistent. The spread between bid and ask prices tightens as liquidity increases, rewarding early information with better entry points.

Major weather pattern shifts—such as an unexpected heat dome, cold front, or change in atmospheric pressure—can dramatically reprrice this market. Updates from European weather services, satellite imagery showing cloud cover or moisture patterns, and historical analogues to past July 8 conditions all influence trader positioning. Geopolitical or industrial events affecting regional air quality or urban heat effects may also factor in. As Jul 8, 2026 approaches, intraday temperature readings and real-time weather alerts will drive final price adjustments, with the most volatile moves typically occurring in the 24 hours before settlement.
