Frequently asked questions

The Madrid temperature market dashboard on Polymarket tracks real-time odds and trading activity for the highest temperature forecast in Madrid on July 7. Traders buy and sell shares based on their predictions of whether the peak temperature will reach specific thresholds. The interface displays current market prices, historical price movements, and trading volume, allowing participants to monitor how sentiment shifts as new weather data and forecasts emerge. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the market as conditions change.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather analyst forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior and risk appetite alongside meteorological models. While professional forecasters rely on physics-based simulations and historical data, this market aggregates the views of many participants with varying confidence levels and time horizons. Comparing the implied probability from market prices to published forecasts from national weather services can reveal where traders see upside or downside risk relative to expert consensus, offering a complementary perspective on the likely outcome.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares that pay out if the highest temperature in Madrid reaches or exceeds a specified level on July 7. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price reflects the percentage probability implied by the order book at any moment. As new weather updates, model runs, or trading interest emerge, the price adjusts continuously. Participants profit by correctly predicting whether the outcome will occur, creating incentives for accurate forecasting and efficient price discovery.

This market resolves around Jul 7, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Madrid on July 7 can be verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by official meteorological data from recognized weather monitoring stations in or near Madrid. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout once the final temperature is confirmed and the market settles. Until that point, prices may fluctuate based on updated forecasts and changing market sentiment.

Major weather model updates, atmospheric pressure systems, and seasonal climate patterns will likely shift market prices as resolution approaches. Unexpected heat waves, changes in forecast confidence from meteorological agencies, or shifts in trader positioning can trigger sharp price movements. Real-time temperature readings on July 7 itself will drive final adjustments as the day unfolds. Additionally, any significant weather news or anomalies in the days leading up to the event may prompt traders to reassess their positions and adjust their bids accordingly.
