Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the Madrid temperature record market dashboard tracks real-time odds and historical price movements for the highest temperature expected in Madrid on July 11. The interface displays current trader positioning, 24-hour volume activity, and outcome probabilities as participants buy and sell shares tied to specific temperature thresholds. This live data reflects the collective forecast of the prediction market, updated continuously as new information and weather models emerge. Traders use the dashboard to monitor sentiment shifts and identify trading opportunities ahead of the event resolution.

Prediction market odds often diverge from traditional weather forecasts because they incorporate real-time trader behavior, risk appetite, and forward-looking sentiment rather than relying solely on meteorological models. While meteorologists publish deterministic temperature ranges based on atmospheric data, this market aggregates the beliefs of many participants with financial incentives to forecast accurately. Comparing the implied probability from market odds to the confidence intervals published by weather services can reveal whether traders are pricing in more or less uncertainty than experts expect, offering a complementary perspective on the likely outcome.

On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker (AMM) system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each outcome—defined by a temperature range or threshold—has a price between 0 and 1 (or 0% to 100%), reflecting the probability traders assign to that outcome occurring. As demand for a particular temperature range increases, its price rises; conversely, reduced demand lowers it. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures the market remains liquid and responsive to new weather data, model updates, and trader conviction throughout the event window.

This market resolves around Jul 11, 2026, once the highest temperature recorded in Madrid on July 11 is verifiable from credible public reporting. The outcome is determined by comparing actual meteorological measurements against the predefined temperature thresholds embedded in each outcome share. Traders who correctly predicted the temperature range receive their winnings proportional to their position size, while incorrect positions expire worthless. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the close of the trading day, once official temperature data is published and confirmed.

Major weather model updates, particularly those from European meteorological services, can shift odds significantly if they forecast higher or lower temperatures than previously expected. Heat waves, atmospheric pressure systems, or unexpected weather patterns affecting southern Europe will influence trader positioning. Real-time temperature readings on July 11 itself will drive sharp repricing as the actual high becomes clearer. Additionally, any unusual atmospheric events—such as cloud cover changes or wind pattern shifts—reported in the hours before or during the day could trigger rapid adjustments as traders update their beliefs based on emerging conditions.
